Waste No Time. Know All Your Need for a Successful Chinese Visa Application for Nigerians Living in Nigeria

Hey dear Nigerian, are you looking to visit China soon for business or for a vacation but do not know where to get started with your Chinese Visa Application?

Don’t worry.

I am here to show you what you need and how to get your Chinese Visa Application done with almost 100% certainty of being approved as a Nigerian living in Nigeria.

So, let’s get started.

What Is A Visa?

A visa is simply an authorization from a government authority that grants the holder the permission to travel to a country he or she is neither a lawful permanent resident or citizen of. It also states the condition for which the holder can enter, stay and leave the country.

However, a visa does not automatically grant its holder automatic admission into the issuing country. That’s a responsibility that many countries leave to the discretion of their Immigration services personnels at the port of entry.

Just like many other countries, if you intend to visit China as a Nigerian, the first thing you need to know is the type of visa that you will be needing. The second thing will be the requirements for the visa type. Thirdly, you will want to know the cost. And finally, you will have to fill out the Chinese Visa Application form and actually go on to submit the completed Chinese Visa Application form correctly and completely filled out alongside the supporting documents.

What are the Types of China Visas Available to Nigerians?

  1. Chinese Tourist Visa: As a Nigerian, if your intention to visit China is for the purpose of holidaying or leisure or some other form of tourism, then you should be making a Chinese visa application for the Tourist Visa type. The Chinese Tourist Visa lets you stay in any part of China for up to 90 days.
  2. Chinese Business Visa: For a Nigerian with the intent to travel to China for a business purpose, the Chinese Business visa is what you should be applying for. It also allows you for up to 90 days in China. And the good thing is that the Chinese Business Visa allows you to also enjoy holiday/tourism activities while going about your business. With this visa type, you will be able to tour factories, attend business meetings with suppliers and manufacturers, order/buy products you need, attend seminars, conferences, events and trade fairs, and do pretty much any and everything related to business. Usually, you will need an invitation from the company you are primarily going to do business with in China (or the conference / event organiser if you are going for an event) to be eligible to make this kind of Chinese visa application but do not worry, we will take that burden off your shoulders!
  3. Chinese Work Visa: Only those who are going to China for the purpose of work require a Chinese Work Visa otherwise known as Chinese Work Permit. It is mandatory that you already have an employment offer with an invitation letter from your employer stating that you have been offered a clearly stated role in the company for you to be able to apply for and stand a chance of getting a Chinese Work Visa.
  4. Chinese Study Visa: Also known as the Chinese Study Permit, this is the visa type you need to be allowed into China for the purpose of study at one of their institutions.

From the foregoing, it is clear that unless you are going to China for study or work purposes, the best Chinese visa type to consider is the Chinese Business Visa.

Why is that?

It is simple. With the business visa, you can also enjoy tourist activities as well as business-related activities. Whereas, with the tourist visa type, it is unlawful to do business in China.

Another reason I favour the Chinese business visa over the Chinese tourist visa is that, currently, the Chinese embassy has stopped the processing of independent (or individual) Chinese tourist visas in Nigeria. According to their support staff on a call, a tourist visa application must be submitted as a group of minimum 5 applicants.

I am guessing you are not about to go out looking for 4 other persons to apply with you whether or not they intend travelling. I don’t even want to get into the conditions that usually come with a group application for visas.

What are the Requirements for a Chinese Visa Application for Nigerians?

  1. International Passport: Must valid for at least 6 months and must have blank visa pages.
  2. Data Page: A photocopy of your international passport’s data page.
Passport Photograph: A passport photograph taken with a bare face on a white background. The size has to be 48mm x 33mm.
  3. Invitation Letter: You will need an invitation letter issued by a trade partner, conference organiser, etc if your purpose of travel is business-related. You will have to go to the embassy with a copy even though the party inviting you is required to mail a copy to the embassy also. If you are going to visit a friend or a family member, then it is the person who will send your invitation letter. However, if it is for tourism purposes, you will need an Invitation Letter for Tourists issued by a relevant unit, an individual in China.
  4. Host’s ID: The contact person of the company inviting you is required to provide a photocopy of his or her ID. If your travel purpose is for tourism, the family, friend or tourism unit’s contact will need to provide a copy of his or her ID.
  5. Confirmed Flight Booking: A copy of your flight itinerary which must be verifiable. But you do not have to make payment before your visa decision is made. However, it is important that it remains valid on the airline’s portal till a decision on your visa is made. Otherwise, if the airline cancels your reservation and the embassy cannot confirm it at the time of checking, it means that you do not have a confirmed flight reservation and could lead to the refusal of your visa application. You will very likely need a travel agency like Ehis Travels for this.
  6. Confirmed Hotel Booking: Again, just like that of flight, you need to submit a reservation for a verifiable hotel with their details on it so that the embassy can confirm its validity. You do not necessarily have to pay for this upfront.

How Much Is Chinese Visa Application Fee In Nigeria?

The Chinese Visa Application Fee in Nigeria varies according to the exchange rate. So, expect to pay an average of N70,000 as the Chinese Visa Application fee.

This will be determined at the point of payment at the embassy.

According to the Chinese authority’s website, you will be charged according to the actual amount by the POS. Cash is NOT allowed.

What is the Processing Time for a Chinese Visa Application from Nigeria?

While the authority says it takes 5 working days which is actually 7 days assuming that there is no public holiday, experience has shown that it could take much longer to get a decision for a Chinese visa application in Nigeria.

But don’t worry, I will share with you how to ensure you get approved in record time just in a moment.

Does the Chinese Embassy Approve Visas for Nigerians and Will They Approve My Own?

Yes and maybe, no!

Yes. The Chinese embassy actually approves visas for Nigerian applicants and this is based on the merit of your application and outcome of your interview where applicable.
