Nigerian students planning to study abroad were hit hard as the Naira fell to an all-time low against the US dollar.
The country’s declining currency means more students will seek tuition-free colleges elsewhere to continue their educational journey, while also factoring in the cost of living.
Although it is difficult to obtain free university degrees without outside scholarships, there are dozens of free universities worldwide for postgraduate programs. Depending on the country, degree level, and field of study, some programs may even cover living expenses.

Tuition-Free Universities Abroad
University Of Stavanger, Norway
The University of Stavanger (abbreviated UiS) is the fifth university in Norway established in 2004 when the University College of Stavanger (HiS) was granted university status, it’s also on the list of tuition-free universities.
The university has 10,888 students and 1,372 members and is organized into three faculties: The faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Technology.
The Archaeological Museum is also part of the university.
The university campus is in Ullandhaug in Stavanger and most of the housing and faculties are also located here.
At Stavanger University, crossing national, linguistic, and cultural borders is highly valued. 12% of all students come from outside Norway, and they offer a total of 23 study programs in English in a variety of fields. In addition, the majority of the Norwegian population speaks English, which facilitates off-campus communication.
RWTH Aachen University, Germany
RWTH Aachen University is a famous choice for college students all over the world.
It’s Germany’s largest technical university, with over 13,000 students from 138 countries.
It ranks 58th in graduate employability under the latest QS World University Rankings, so a degree from this studies powerhouse will definitely improve your CV.
Like other public universities in Germany, it is listed as one of the tuition-free universities for global students from non-EU countries.
You might have to pay a semester fee of 50 euros per month, on top of living costs.
Work is allowed for up to 120 full days or 240 half days per year unless you’re employed as a research assistant, in which case your working days will not be capped.
University of Oslo, Norway
Another Norwegian University makes the list of tuition-free universities for Nigerians and International students and this one is the highest-ranked university in the country according to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking in 2022.
The University of Oslo offers English-taught postgraduate programs ranging from courses such as fluid mechanics and social anthropology to law of the sea.
In arguably one of the most expensive countries to live in, you can work up to 20 hours a week to earn a living, which gives you ample opportunity to practice your Norwegian.
This gives you the added benefit of being able to stay and work in the country for a year after graduation.
University of Iceland, Iceland
This Reykjavik campus is also listed as a tuition-free university and does not charge tuition for international students.
Pay the registration fees, and you will be exempted from taking the IELTS or TOEFL tests if you can prove that you have sufficient knowledge of English from your previous studies.
You don’t need to be fluent in the Icelandic language; both Master’s and Doctoral programs are available here.
If you are interested in this university, remember that the admission period is only once a year, from December 10th to February 1st of the following year for non-EU students.
Sorbonne University, France
Sorbonne University, located in Paris, is a top-performing research institution. All students gain an excellent education with a focus on engineering and science.
